LEAP OF FAITH
Began steeplechase in last year of high school. "We were looking at trying to make the Junior Pan American team that year and going to Brazil. The 1500(m) was pretty well sealed up. I had no intentions of running the 5000m, so my coach basically said, "If you want to make that team, it looks like you’re going to have to try the steeple." I ended up running 5:47 for the 2km steeple — which was good enough to make the team — and I placed fourth at the Junior Pan Ams in Brazil that year." (runnersworld.com, 5 May 2011)
