Injuries

Heel problems (plantar fasciitis) in June 2014 and required an injection to strengthen weakened tissue - six weeks in recovery. (running.competitor.com, 24 Oct 2014) Injured foot during a workout in January 2016, leading to a low-grade stress fracture. Did not run again until the end of March and returned to competition in May. (natashawodak.com, 20 Apr 2016; athleticsillustrated.com, 25 May 2016)

Ambition: "I want to enjoy myself and love running. I’d also like to do some marathons in the next few years." (saltyrunning.com, 15 Feb 2017)
Additional information

MATURE
Ran in school but not successful. "After college I spent one year trying to run competitively and did not find much success, so I quit competitive running for three years. I still ran three to four days a week, going to practice." Returned to the sport in 2009. "I started to train more seriously with my old college coach and the team. I saw myself getting better and had a renewed passion." (saltyrunning.com, 15 Feb 2017)

BE BRAVE
Has tattoo as a reminder. "I got the Be Brave tattoo for me. It wasn’t really for running. I had been struggling with depression and anxiety, taking it one day at a time. I was telling myself to get through the hard stuff by being brave and strong." Divorced in 2013. "As runners, people don’t always see personal issues as serious as physical injuries. Sometimes when someone is dealing with something in their personal life, it can be as debilitating as a physical injury. Running kind of saved me." (saltyrunning.com, 15 Feb 2017)
