Sporting relatives

Parents started triathlon and road-running associations in Bermuda. Mother raced in first women’s US Olympic marathon trials. Father rowed for Bermuda at 1972 Olympics, then switched to distance running and placed 17th in marathon at 1978 Commonwealth Games before making a final switch to the triathlon. Memorable: "My Mom finished fourth in the Boston Marathon, which was the only trophy of theirs I admired when I was young." (triathlete.com, 30 Sep 2010)
Influence: “I have an older brother who is more talented than me. Every running race I won when I was a kid, he had run, and won, a few years before. I could win a race and he would tell me I was still slower than his times and that kept me humble and didn’t let my head swell. I realised at a young age that even though you might win a race, it doesn’t mean you are the best.? (triathlete.com, 30 Sep 2010)
