Additional information

BELIEF
Discovered an unusual method of inspiration in 2009. "I was really struggling with my running and it was down to me not believing I was good enough to be the athlete I wanted to be. My husband gave me a block of wood with a nine-inch nail imbedded in it. He gave me another eight nine-inch nails and asked me to balance all eight nails off that one nail. Impossible. After a long time playing around, I proved it wasn't. Therefore, I could do what I wanted if only I put my mind to it." (Athlete, Nov 2017)

ADVENTURERS
"I did a skydive near Table Mountain and shark-cage diving in South Africa. Also completed a night scuba dive, which was pretty scary." (Athlete, Nov 2017)

COMMONWEALTH GAMES
Took a break from running marathons in 2014 to compete on track in 10,000m at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, finishing seventh. (chrisrainsford.co.uk, 10 Apr 2014; tilastopaja.eu, Nov 2017)
