Additional information

TWICE LUCKY
Involved in two serious car accidents. The first, in 1994, when his mother was killed; the second, in 2009, while cycling home from training in the Netherlands. In the second accident, "...the car was travelling at 75kmph, I flew seven metres and landed on top of another car. The people on the scene said, ’This guy is dead’. In the first accident I lost my mother, I was in a coma for three months. The second accident brought all the memories back. It was hard mentally. When I heard the news I might not play badminton, I was so depressed." (telegraph.co.uk, 30 Jul 2012)

PRESSURE POINT
Never won his home tournament, the Uganda International, with second being his best finish (2017). "It hurts that I have not won it, despite doing well away from home. In the past, too much pressure of playing home has let me down." (kawowo.com, 24 Feb 2017)

HELPING HAND
Ran a seven-day coaching clinic in Uganda in 2016. "I have offered this at a free cost as a way of giving back to community. We hope the clinic will help the kids acquire the skills and learn the more about badminton." (chimpreports.com, 2 Sep 2016)

NATIONAL FIRST
Became the first badminton player to represent Uganda at the Olympic Games (Rio 2016), and the first to play in a professional league, after signing with Luxemburgish in July 2008. (badminton-information.com, 2009)
