Reason

"I was always sporty as a kid. I did swimming, netball, everything under the sun. I always felt like sport was my pathway. The Olympic thing was always there for me. I was going further with my netball as well. The Olympics and volleyball was always my wish, it felt more important for me." (dailytelegraph.co.au, 5 Aug 2016)

Additional information

TRAIL-BLAZER
CLANCY was the first Indigenous Australian to represent Australia in beach volleyball. At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, she became Australia's first Indigenous Olympian in beach volleyball. "It is for me and my culture. I hope I can inspire people to dream and do things that haven't been done before." (theaustralian.com.au, 6 Aug 2016, sbs.com.au, 28 Jun 2016)

AMBITION
CLANCY was inspired by the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. "That's when I definitely knew I wanted to be an Olympian. It was just the vibe and I was so young, our family all got together to watch the Olympics on television." (theaustralian.com.au, 6 Aug 2016)
