MUHAMMAD ALI
His late grandfather, Alan SCAIFE, arranged a trip for the world heavyweight boxing champion, Muhammad ALI (USA), to New Zealand in February 1979. Alan had taken an invitation team to fight an ALI amateur boxing team in 1978, and a newspaper report about the squad's fundraising efforts caught the eye of ALI's promoter Harold SMIT.
