Additional information

GAMES PREP
Lives in Brisbane, Australia and has been training at the Broadbeach Bowls Club in preperation for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. "The greens on the Gold Coast are different to home so it doesn’t do any harm being based here and getting to know them. There’s good competition here as well so that’s driving me and helping with preparation." (olympic.org.nz, 28 Jan 2018)

HUSBAND
Married to former New Zealand lawn bowls coach and selector Dave EDWARDS (NZL). "Whenever it's a decision on selection, it's always 'Hi Jo, it's Dave Edwards, national coach'," she said. "It's something we've always tried to keep professional. I find out by phone when everyone else does. We could be sitting in the lounge together and he'll ring me." Dave said: "Every time we come into camp, we get divorced, and remarry again at the conclusion of the event." (stuff.co.nz, 1 Dec 2016)

BEST MATES
Has been best friends with New Zealand teammate Val SMITH for 35 years. The pair met when playing cricket in Nelson, when EDWARDS was 12 and SMITH was 17. Their cricket coach was also Dave EDWARDS (NZL). The pair represented Nelson together in six sports - cricket, indoor cricket, softball, touch, football and bowls. They won a gold medal together at the 2008 World Championships in Christchurch. "We had talked about it, since we started playing bowls, about what it would be like to become world champions together. There's not too many people with a story like ours. It's a friendship that's lasted a lot of years and to be able to play together in the highest competition for 10 of those years is just awesome." (The Press, 24 Nov 2016)

HONOURS
Named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours list. (dpmc.gov.au, 02 June 2014)

MARATHON DEBUT
Made her debut at the 2001 Asia Pacific Games against Norfolk Island. It rained during the middle of the day and they had to resume the next morning to finish the match, making it an 18-hour contest. "It was a pretty marathon debut." (nzherald.co.nz, 29 Aug 2016)
