Additional information

COMMONWEALTH GAMES
Participated in all 10 Commonwealth Games since Edmonton 1978, collecting a total of eight medals, including four gold. First one came at Brisbane 1982 - a bronze in pairs with Hazel MACKINTOSH (NIR). Won two fullbore golds at Manchester 2002, in individual and pairs with teammate Martin MILLAR (NIR).  "In 2018 for the next Games, I would very much like to go back to the Gold Coast for the shooting at Brisbane, where I won my first medal in 1982." (thecgf.com, 8 Jan 2018; belfasttelegraph.co.uk, 24 Jul 2014)

INSTINCT
Admits he does not have the best eyesight for shooting. "My vision is not very good, but there are other areas which come into play. Much of it comes down to experience, which helps with the psychological preparation and approach, and of course you need the basic shooting skills." (belfasttelegraph.co.uk, 24 Jul 2014)

AIR FORCE
Former pilot in the Royal Air Force, having flown Vulcan bombers and Phantoms, reaching the rank of wing commander. Retired from full-time employment as a pilot before the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Has taught students in Air Squadron at Cambridge University. (belfasttelegraph.co.uk, 24 Jul 2014)
