Additional information

YOUNG STAR
Became Scotland’s most successful Youth Games athlete in history, winning five medals, including three gold at the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. (scottishswimming.com, 9 Oct 2017)

INSPIRATION
Attended the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as a spectator and watched his compatriots succeed. That was the moment he decided he wanted to be a swimmer. "That’s something that will stick with me for the rest of my life, that atmosphere, the home games of Team Scotland and everyone all shouting for Ross (MURDOCH) and Michael (JAMIESON). I’m so excited to go to Gold Coast and get that same experience." (scottishswimming.com, 9 Oct 2017)

HUMBLE
Despite his record-breaking exploits, he remains grounded and insists all the credit should go to the people who trained him. "I wouldn’t be going to the Gold Coast if it wasn’t for (former coach at the Perth City Swim Club) Ann DICKSON. I have been with her since I started swimming." (dailyrecord.co.uk, 6 Oct 2017)

AWARDS
Honoured in the 2017 Scottish Swimming Awards in Aberdeen and picked up the WG Todd Prize and Cup, awarded to outstanding male and female junior athletes. (smallcitybigpersonality.co.uk, 4 Oct 2017)

FLYING
Visits his father, who lives and works in California, United States, twice a year as a holiday. They fly over and around the Orange County area, taking in the sights of Los Angeles and San Diego. (scottishswimming.com, 22 Jan 2018; scottishswimming.com, 9 Oct 2017)
