Additional information

IMPAIRMENT DETAILS
Right leg amputated after contracting chickenpox when he was six, also hearing impaired. (paralympic.org.a, 22 Feb 2018; couriermail.com.au, 8 Sep 2016)

29 MINS
"It was during December 1999. I sort of just finished Grade 1 and I contracted chickenpox, got DVT (deep vein thrombosis) in my lower right limb. They (the hospital) rang my parents and said, 'You better get in here, we've got a decision to make.' It was either my leg or my life, because the day before I'd flatlined for about 29 minutes. I was in cardiac arrest before they decided to take my leg off, due to the blood clot - it was in one of the main veins going back to my heart." (heraldsun.com.au, 5 Sep 2012)
